This past weekend Sock Dreams sponsored the first ever Rose City Comic Con! It was an amazing turnout for such a new event, almost immediately exceeding capacity in the tiny Artists Alley/Vendor hall.
It was a comic book nerd’s dream! There were so many local artists and writers alongside local comic shops and crafters. I’ve never had the pleasure of attending any comics convention before, so I went all-out with a Captain America shirt, super-hero-red O Basics over beige Retina Fishnets, and some special Captain Marvel nails!
Speaking of, I got to meet Captain Marvel’s current frontrunner, local Portland writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, and also her husband Matt Fraction, who writes for Hawkeye (I featured a panel last week!), and the current Iron Man. Kelly and Matt were super fun to chat with, and they picked up some Bring It Bot and Ninja socks for their son on their way out.
Many of the attendees knew us well, including the lovely Steampunk Ladies in their Extraordinary Stripes Longer. Some needed some sock help, like Velma, who had been woefully sockless until she nabbed some orange NERD Knee Highs.
It was such a fun weekend and I wish it wasn’t over. Thank goodness there’s always next year…
