If you’ve ever been told not to wear white after Labour Day, or that black should never be worn with Navy, our newest sock journal may be very enlightening…
So I have a thing for silk these days. I never got the hype when I was younger. I mean, what’s the big deal with icky-slick shirts shaped like bags and decorated with the most garish floral patterns Humanity could create? My mother had so many of them, and I hated them all.
But the thing about silk in socks is that the finish is completely different. In these socks it ads a very slight sheen, a lot of softness against the skin, and keeps your feet a little cooler. These are super comfy with cute wide ribbing and comfy cuffs that can be folded over or worn scrunchy.
This combines two things I really love: chevrons and sock garters! The socks are nice and light for summer heat (I don’t care what people say—shoes without socks on a hot day just feels so gross to me, with nothing between your sweaty foot and leather). The tops on these are a liiiiiittle tight, topping out at about 14.5” for the style I am wearing. Sock garters by their nature should be just a tad bit tight, but for those whose measurements go past 16”, we also have extra-long “men’s”, garter clip, and Simply Adjustable.
Tuesday: Extraordinary Striped Thigh Highs
This is the first pair of Sock Dreams socks I ever bought! They’re good for dressing up an outfit, or just lazing about in bed on a sunny day (as illustrated in the above photo…). I have mine cuffed down to be shorter than thigh high, because it’s a little too warm for it.
Monday: A Chevrons
My favourite anklets! These have a lovely chevron pattern and sweet roll-tops. I chose to cuff these over, which shows off the wrong side of the pattern nicely. These are super comfy and light for hot days, and aren’t very restricting around ankles (tights socks make me sadface). They also fit my tiny feet (US6) really nicely!
I’m wearing these as just-over-the-knee socks, with the help of some sock garters and sock glue. I’m having a total fight with the sock glue though, as the tops of these are double-layered and really diaphanous, so it looks a bit funny. Next time I’ll grab a garter belt and just deal with visible straps. That’s a cute look, right?
Oh…my god. Oh my god. I’ve never really ‘got’ what makes silk so amazing and desirable before, but after just a few minutes of wearing these, I know now. I first wore these on the hottest day of the year so far (103F), and my feet didn’t sweat once. I also did not end the day with painful blisters, despite wearing a pair of darling but brutal leather flats. It helps that they have truly flat seams, so there isn’t anything bulky rubbing on your toes all day.
This is just the first of several new products we’ll be carrying from Philippe Matignon. And oh, do we have something truly special for a lucky few of you coming up…
Brenna celebrates two years of heading our Sock Journal by recounting our Dreamers’ favourite posts.
Dreamer B relaxing on a day off in lovely Knitted Moose Crews! B says:
Man, once it got to be shorter sock time I have been loving these. They are soft and adorable. I tend to wear them scrunched though, like I do all crews.
These lace socks with ribbons have been sitting kind of lonely on our website for a while, so we thought we’d channel our inner ballerinas to show off how cute they can be.
The lace foot is very soft, and very stretchy. The white pair are on a US6 foot, while the black pair are on US8.5. The ribbons are suuuuuper long, so you can either double-wrap them around your ankle, or lace them up all the way past your knees!
Nabbed a shot of our warehouse assistant, Kitsune’s, tights and socks combo. We’re kind of wild about cyan+red at the moment, and the K Bell Rainbow Knee Highs are a perfect accompaniment to the rest of the outfit. Because of all the colour and patterns going around in the skirt and socks, simple black Combed Cotton Tights by Foot Traffic keep it from being too much.
With warmer weather rapidly creeping up on us (woo!), my skirts are getting a little shorter, and my wool socks and tights are about to be retired until next fall.
Leggings are a fantastic choice for in-between weather! These Side Butterfly Printed Footless Tights (which are on sale for $20!) by b.ella, are soft and opaque microfiber, with a really cute stylised butterfly pattern up the sides of the leggings.
Both shots above are of the leggings on me, and I love that the pattern doesn’t distort in ugly ways on the larger parts of my legs—and that it goes all the way up tot he waist! The burgundy pair is probably my absolute favourite, because of how subtle it is (so subtle that it was hard to get a good shot of the design!), but the white is great for my floofier outfits and just begs to be paired with flounces and lace.
